Technical Skills

  • Helps to maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies
  • Assists with patient intake, discharge, and obtains and records patient history
  • Performs pre-surgery diagnostic lab tests as directed
  • Monitors animals during surgery and observes animals after surgery to detect abnormal behavior or physical symptoms
  • Provides nursing care for injured or ill animals
  • Prepares patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery; prepares animals for surgery; assists in surgery suite
  • Assures good working condition of monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, dental machines, and autoclave

Customer Service Skills

  • Provides in-person and telephone client services including education and answering questions about procedures
  • Advises pet owners on post-operative care and medication dosages
  • Assists with community outreach programs as directed
